Jobs ‘cracked’ Apple TV
New biography provides tantalising hints of full-fledged Apple TV set – could one be on the way in 2012?
Apple fans have been waiting a long time for Cupertino to produce a flatscreen TV to sit alongside their iPods, iPhones and iMacs. Now it seems that a full-fledged Apple TV might be hitting our living rooms soon – if comments in Steve Jobs’s authorised biography are anything to go by.
“He very much wanted to do for television sets what he had done for computers, music players, and phones: make them simple and elegant,” writes his biographer Walter Isaacson.
In Jobs’ authorised biography, Isaacson comments, “‘I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,’ he told me. ‘It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.’ No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ‘It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.’”
Jobs’ comments – together with recent reports that Apple is looking into creating a subscription TV service – will have rival TV manufacturers quaking in their booties.
One thing’s for sure – new Apple CEO Tim Cook will be looking to make his mark over the next year, and delivering the the long-awaited Apple TV set would be an obvious movie. We’ll keep you posted with all the latest developments.
