Nikon Coolpix Android camera incoming?

It looks like Android 2.3 Gingerbread may have some life left yet as Nikon adopts the OS for a new Coolpix S800

It was only a matter of time before camera manufacturers realised their operating systems had room for improvement. The next logical step is to stick Android in their snappers, a move Nikon has reportedly taken with its Coolpix S800.

According to Nikon Rumours, the company is planning to unveil a Coolpix S800 or S800c that will show all the hallmarks of Android 2.3 Gingerbread on its 3.5in OLED display. Sure the OS is a little old, but for camera functionality it’ll be ideal.

Nikon plans to release the device with a 25-250mm zoom lens, built-in GPS, Wi-Fi and access to the Google Play Store – Instagram on a camera anyone?

Could this be the first Android camera, beating Polaroid’s SC1630 (which never made it to market)? To find out, you’ll have to wait until August 22nd when the Nikon Coolpix S800 will, apparently, be unveiled.
