Windows Phone 7.8 update imminent?

It looks like the Windows Phone 7.8 update rollout has begun on the other side of the globe – so we could be next in line

Windows Phone 7 owners have been twiddling their thumbs waiting for the Windows Phone 7.8 update – which brings older devices up to speed with a number of cool features from Windows Phone 8. Fortunately it looks like the wait is over, with Microsoft dishing up an early Christmas prezzie to owners of certain Nokia devices.

It isn’t clear exactly why certain Nokia Lumias have been able to update early – we’re guessing it’s because of Microsoft and Nokia’s super-chummy relationship – but reports are coming from New Zealand and the Netherlands that users have been able to upgrade to Windows Phone 7.8. No sign of reports from Blighty yet, which suggests that the wait may continue for UK Windows Phone devices.

If you haven’t been prompted to update and own an unlocked Nokia Windows Phone, it may be worth plugging it into the Zune desktop software to see if that reaps any reward. Customisable tiles, more accent colours and a plethora of useful functionality awaits.
