Here at Stuff towers, our many toys, gadgets and tech are constantly jostling for space. Piles of them wobble ominously as we shuffle past with arms full of hot mugs of tea. It’s a bit like SD cards, just when you think you’ve got one with loads of space; bang! It blows up because it can’t hold any more pics. Four gigs, gone like that!
How about 16GB then? That’s 16GB on one storage card. A storage card the size of, um, an SD card – maybe slightly larger than a stamp if you’re unfamiliar with SD cards.
SDHC, or secure digital high capacity, cards are the next-generation of our humble little SD cards. Those old ones only went up to 2GB, SDHC has its sights set on a lofty 32GB, one day, when it’s all growed up.
Luckily, SDHC devices are all over the shop now, like the Panasonic SDR-S150, for example, or the Creative Zen. It’s a nippy little thing too, the Transcend 16GB SDHC card has a minimum write speed of 6MB/s. That’s officially faster than 100 women at the doors of an H&M sale.
But since these cards can only double in capacity, the 32GB is so close we can feel its thundering footsteps, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man-like.
We better start making some room.
