Bookish gadget fans can already grab Amazon’s Kindle app for their PC, Mac, BlackBerry and iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch – and soon they’ll be able to browse electronic tomes on their Android phone, too.
Amazon has just announced that Kindle for Android will be launched “soon”, and that it will feature much the same functions as existing Kindle apps.
That means you’ll be able to search over 540,000 books; buy and download them, access your library of previous bought Kindle books; synchronise the last page read between different devices, allowing you to continue reading from where you left off; choose from five different font sizes; preview the first few pages of books before buying; and read in either portrait or landscape mode, flicking or tapping the side of the screen to turn a page.
The Kindle for Android page states that the app will work on devices with Android 1.6 or greater. You can enter your email address to get an alert when it goes live.
