Apple bans Lightning charger station

Apple wields its battle-worn ban hammer on a portable charger Kickstarter project – causing the largest Kickstarter refund to date

Apple has banned the production of a portable charger station Kickstarter project because it wont allow the sale of a Lightning-compatible product alongside non-Lightning adapters.

The POP portable charger was to offer a multi-device charging solution for micro USB devices as well as offering Apple’s new Lightning connector and an old 30-pin-to-Lightning adapter for older iDevices.

Project creator Jamie Siminoff has decided to refund each and every backer – a grand total of £139,170 – as a result, making it the biggest refund on Kickstarter to date.

Looks like our battle tank/Lighting adapter combo won’t make it through the application process either. Back to the drawing board we suppose…
