BlackBerry Z10 review round-up

We take a look at what the tech world makes of BlackBerry's latest handset – the Z10

BlackBerry has, at long last, finally revealed the Z10 and its new BlackBerry 10 OS to the world. It needed to be good. It needed to be fresh. It needed to be different. So, is it? Well, it earned four stars in our BlackBerry Z10 review and impressed us with its innovation and excellent keyboard. But what did the rest of the tech world makes of the BlackBerry’s latest entry?

Engadget‘s Tim Stevens doesn’t think that the BlackBerry Z10 is good enough to “woo buyers away from the Galaxy S3 or the iPhone 5 or any of the other delicious devices on the other platforms” but he was impressed with numerous features including the Z10’s sharp 356ppi screen which “made web surfing a pleasure”.

John McCann from Tech Radar reckons that it’s too early to tell whether or not the BlackBerry Z10 is the handset to save the company, but touts the Z10 as “a promising start to the BlackBerry era”.

The Verge‘s Joshua Topolsky found that the BlackBerry Hub “might not be the best way to manage a constant barrage of alerts”, although he does concede that it works quite well. He also points out the importance of back button, a feature that BlackBerry has tried to stamp out from its new BlackBerry 10 OS as much as possible.

Jessica Dolcourt from CNET believes that BlackBerry 10’s gesture interface can be unintuitive with a steep learning curve but thinks there are enough new features and a modern design to give BlackBerry fans what they’ve hungered for. Though the Z10 is not “quite enough to draw committed iPhone or Android owners” into the BlackBerry camp.

A fairly diverse set of opinions all around, but the general consensus is that BlackBerry is on the right path, and the Z10 shows sings of a promising foundation to a new era of BlackBerry 10 devices.
