BT Sport to offer free Champions League football coverage – and 4K sport channel

Anyone with the BT TV service will get all 351 European matches gratis – and 4K is coming too

When it comes to European football coverage, BT has leathered it right into the back of the onion bag. BOOF. The broadcaster has announced that all its coverage of next season’s Champions League and Europa League will be available free-of-charge.

Not to anyone, of course. You’ll have to be a BT TV customer, but whereas previously you’d have to pay out extra for the BT Sport channels, you’ll now get them gratis. That means BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, ESPN and new BT Sport Europe channel are all free. If you’re a BT Broadband customer who wants to watch Sky via the BT Sport app or on BT Mobile, you can add the BT Sport Pack for £5 a month.

The company also announced the upcoming launch of its first 4K channel: BT Sport Ultra HD. Arriving in August, this will offer Champions League, Premier League and Aviva Premiership Rugby matches in 4K quality. This will only be available to BT Infinity customers, but pricing has yet to be announced.

BT’s football coverage will be helmed by new signing Gary Lineker, with Jake Humphrey, Rio Ferdinand and others including Paul Scholes, Owen Hargreaves, Glenn Hoddle, Harry Redknapp and former referee Howard Webb.
