When Sony launched its 80GB PS3 in Korea, we were foaming round the chops in anticipation. ‘No chance’ said Sony, ‘you ain’t got no chance of getting one of these suckers – they’re Korea only’. Well it’s just announced that the pimped PS3 will go on sale in the States too. Oh, and the price cut rumours it quashed recently – they’re true as well.Lucky Americans will now pay just $500 for the current 60GB model (a tiny £250) or $600 (£300) for the new 80GB version, due next month, which will also get a freebie copy of MotorStorm thrown in – and possibly some other extras to justify the extra cost.Does this mean an equivalent £50 price drop and an 80GB model is on the way here to take on the imminent Xbox 360 Elite? Only Sony knows – and it’s saying nothing.Essentials Sony PS3 60GB, 80GB Price: £425, £TBA ($500, $600 in US) On sale: Now, TBA (Now, August in US) Contact: Sony Related stories: Xbox 360 Elite UK bound? 80GB PS3 unleashed – in South Korea Bargain PS3s on the way from Sony?
