As the sun set on the Other Stage at Glastonbury last weekend Elbow put in one of the performances of the festival. A cast of thousands singing in unison that simultaneously felt like a personal gig being performed just for you. And where was I when this most magical of Glasto moments happened? Across the other side of the site. Damn.So I’m having to make do with a live set recorded by the band at the Regent Street Apple Store back in May. Sure, I’m lacking the atmosphere of the Glasto set but the tunes are definitely all present and correct. Plus I could always stand in a field with a can of warm lager and a funny hat on and I’d be halfway there.Featuring some of the best tracks off their stonking new album, The Seldom Seen Kid, this 8-track EP showcases frontman Guy Garvey’s talent for gritty northern poetry sweetened by subtle melodies and soaring choruses.Download it, enjoy it and wish you were there too. I know I do.
