I’m not the most disciplined web user in the world. My bookmarks are bent, my RSS are in a mess, my widgets could well be described as wonky. So I was more than impressed with Excite’s beta version of its personalised homepage service.
Like a lovely, big online desk tidy, Excite MIX provides a one-stop location to pull in content from all your favourite sites via their RSS feeds, as well as offering mail modules and a podcast player.
Browse the latest headlines, catch a ‘cast, read your mails and generally keep on top of the web from just one place. It may not be a new idea, but it’s the slickest and most beautifully user-friendly example I’ve seen so far.
The multipage function means that you can have pages dedicated to your top subjects – sport, music, etc – if you so desire, there’s a notebook for important memos, or just to remind you to feed the cat, while additional services such as pricechecker and weather info are planned for rollout.
Just don’t forget to add stuff.tv to your page, or I’ll send the boys round.
