Foxconn falling short on iPhone demand

Can’t wait to have a brand new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus in your hand? Hope you already have one pre-ordered with a firm ship date, because it sounds like Apple’s primary Chinese manufacturer, Foxconn, is having trouble keeping up with the mass demand for the new handsets.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the 200,000+ workers operating the 100 or so iPhone production lines at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou facility still aren’t enough to match buyer interest for the smartphones. The Journal’s source says that 400,000 iPhone 6 handsets and 140,000 iPhone 6 Plus devices are being made each day.

Part of the problem is that the 5.5in display of the iPhone 6 Plus isn’t yet being reliably produced, with the facility scrapping nearly half of the components made due to defects. Still, those production numbers are sizable, and Foxconn is reportedly trying to hire even more workers, so perhaps further delays will be minimal.

Final Fantasy XV looks rather fetching

Well, here’s a surprise! Square Enix has a new trailer out for Final Fantasy XV – originally announced as Final Fantasy Versus XIII way back in 2006 – with the Tokyo Game Show about to kick off, and it offers a couple minutes of cut-scenes and gameplay alike to soak in.

After the disappointment of the actual Final Fantasy XIII (and FFXIV being an online-only game), this upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One looks pretty promising, with a more modern-day setting found alongside the familiar character designs of Tetsuya Nomura.

A playable demo (called Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae) will be bundled in with the upcoming HD console remaster of Final Fantasy Type-0, which hits Xbox One and PS4 on 20 March 2015. No release date has been set for FFXV itself, but for as long as it’s been on our radar… well, it had better be 2015.

Alien: Isolation has six months of DLC

Alien: Isolation is the most promising Alien franchise game in ages, and while we’re primarily looking forward to the boxed release due out early next month, we can’t help but be happy to hear that the game will be well supported following the launch.

Sega has announced that Creative Assembly’s game will be followed by five add-on packs for the Survivor Mode, the first of which hits on 28 October with the rest out by March 2015. Calling the on-disc, one-map mode a “demo” is uncomfortable branding for a part of a full-priced game, but still, it’s good to know that fresh scares are promised into next year.
