Yes, we have a soft spot for 80s replica cars. Whether they’re large and real, like the A-Team truck, or small and remote-controlled like KITT from Knight Rider, they make us grin like cream-filled cats.So when a remote controlled General Lee, from the hit 80s TV show The Dukes Of Hazzard, showed up on our desk, we almost skipped around the office like delirious fools. Luckily, we didn’t.Instead we pitted the General Lee against Michael’s sentient Pontiac in an event we called ‘racing around a big empty office’. There were thrills, spills and big repair bills as we put our foot (thumb) to the floor (up, slightly).They’re £30 so, naturally, they’re not the greatest remote-controlled cars you could ever buy. And even after the General Lee ran circles around KITT due to it having newer batteries by 24 hours, they still charmed us both: the little devils.Downside: General Lee bellows out a loud ‘Yeee-haaaa’ and a Dixie horn that you can’t turn off until it stops. Silly car. Also, the box has artwork from the 2005 movie starring Johnny Knoxville. Still, it’s easy to forgive – it looks so cool.The General Lee and KITT are not for kids, not really. Sure, kids would enjoy them, but not nearly as much as you will. Get one, have your mate get the other. Race. Enjoy.We hope the next one is a scale replica Ecto 1.
