There are many types of button in the world – from the button that releases your toast just before (or more likely just after) it becomes charcoal, to the ‘obliterate all human life’ type. The Eco Button falls firmly into the warm, fuzzy first category.

The Eco Button simply plugs into the USB port of your PC and will nudge it into power saving mode whenever you fancy. Just give the big button a slap and your PC does the electrical equivalent of going upstairs to ‘ave a little kip.

When you wake it up again, the Eco Button’s software will tell you how many carbon units and even how much cash you’ve saved. It keeps a running total so you can see how much you’ve saved over the life of the button.

It’s not going to save the world, but it might just ease your conscience and boost your eco-cred a little. If you want to reduce your energy consumption at home, take a look at The Wattson too.
