Gamescom 2012 – EA’s Label President has seen the PS4 and Xbox 720
EA exec confirms existence of next-gen Sony and Microsoft consoles exist

While it’s a dead cert that Sony and Microsoft are beavering away on the next generation of consoles, today we got a morsel of information that all-but-confirms the existence of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720.
During a keynote speech at Gamescom, EA Labels President Frank Gibeau stated that he’s seen the next-gen consoles in the flesh.
While not elaborating further, he referred to the consoles by simply saying, “I’ve seen both of them.” A recently-leaked Microsoft internal document points to the release of an Xbox 720 in 2013, kitted out with Kinect 2 and augmented reality features, while reports suggest that the PS4 may embrace the cloud gaming revolution.
Gibeau went on to discuss the expanding and changing games market, and confirmed EA’s dedication to ‘Free-to-play’ gaming. “Free-to-play will become the dominant pricing model by the end of the decade,” he said.
How will free-to-play figure into the next generation of consoles – particularly given Sony’s purchase of cloud gaming service Gaikai? We’ll have to wait to find out. Consider our interest piqued.
