Gamescom 2012 – Sony lifts lid on PlayStation Mobile
Sony takes on iOS with its own App Store – plus get free Vita games when you buy PS3 titles with Cross-Play

We’ve known of its existence for some time, but today Sony officially announced the launch of PlayStation Mobile, a new app-style service that will run across PlayStation 3, Vita and selected mobile devices.
Connecting through users’ PSN IDs, PlayStation Mobile will launch this Autumn, connecting gamers to a vast online store of “portable experiences”. Footage shown at Gamescom suggests that Sony is looking to both blockbuster and indie developers alike to create these mobile titles.
While the service only runs through PlayStation-certified devices, Sony announced that ASUS and Wikipad have already joined the lineup. Sony devices spotted in the Gamescom footage include its own Xperia phones, the Tablet S, and of course the Vita.
Discussing its upcoming titles, Sony also announced a new feature called Cross-Play, which will let gamers download free copies of selected Vita games, once purchased for the PS3. Assassin’s Creed 3 will be the game to make use of this feature, with other upcoming titles including Rachet & Clank Q-Force and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.
We’ve been waiting for Sony to give us a really good reason to buy the Vita, and the combination of PlayStation Mobile and Cross-Play may just be what we’ve been waiting for.
