Hulu UK delayed until 2010
While web TV service Hulu has been enjoyed by our friends over the pond for some time, it now seems that we'll be waiting until 2010 to see it in the
Previously expected to launch in September, the delay has reportedly been caused by the fact Hulu has not managed to sign any UK contract deals as yet.
Its UK roll-out has been supported by American broadcasters like News Corp, NBC, Universal and Disney, and despite reportedly being close to signing a semi-exclusive deal with ITV, it has so far been unable to get the likes of the Beeb or Channel 4 on board.
A source close to the deal told The Telegraph: “Once ITV is on board, Hulu only needs one more UK broadcaster’s content for launch. It will probably go after a deal with BBC Worldwide, which is not signing exclusive arrangements with anyone and then secure some content from its parent companies. This will give it enough material to launch and probably take three to four months after its first deal with ITV”.
With any hope this would mean a Hulu UK launch in January 2010, although the company’s reported laid-back attitude to scoring advertising for its free service may also lead to more delays.
