Prize for most unexpected menu system at IFA (a highly coveted award) goes to Samsung for Sammy the dog on its T10 MP3 player. Sammy features in various animated cartoon guises whether you’re selecting to play music, 30fps QVGA WMV and MP4 video or to access any of the player’s other built-in functions. Sammy aside, the T10 is neat – it has a touch-sensitive control system and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP streaming support for two devices (so three people can listen at once if one is headphone jacked in). It’s also remarkably compact and nicely finished – a great rival to whatever Apple launches next week, we think, and likely to cost roughly the same as an iPod Nano when it’s released in September. If you think Sammy sounds a bit gimmicky or young, don’t worry: there’s a standard menu system for you, granddad.
