iPad Mini to feature iPhone-style slim bezel?
Apple's mini tablet set to feature a slimmed-down bezel around its 4:3 screen
As September’s reported launch of the iPhone 5 – and possibly the iPad Mini – looms, the Apple rumour mill is going into overdrive. The latest reports suggest that the iPad Mini will feature a somewhat unexpected form factor – with a slimmed-down bezel that will make it resemble the iPhone more than the larger iPad.
9to5Mac mocked up the above image based on reports from its sources including case manufacturer Devicewear and Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber.
Based on shots that purport to show the rear of the iPad Mini – and the differences in its aspect ratio from the full-size iPad – they’re pointing to a slimmed-down iPhone-style bezel along the longer sides of the iPad Mini’s 7.85in screen. The screen itself is expected to retain the iPad’s 4:3 aspect ratio.
One possible downside to the slimline bezel is that it won’t leave a great deal of room for the user’s thumbs when used in portrait mode – the Google Nexus 7‘s 16:9 aspect ratio allows plenty of room for your thumbs even with its 7in form factor.
What do you think? Would you rather see a 16:9 iPad Mini to match the iPhone 5’s reported screen size, or are you prepared to sacrifice the side bezel for an iPad-style 4:3 display? Let us know on Twitter.
