Been awaiting an update to the handsome PEBL? Well this is it in all but name. Lining up with Moto’s music phone range, the U9’s gets the same smooth lozenge shape, but marries it with features from the high-end RAZR2.In goes a 2MP camera, Moto’s ‘CrystalTalk’ noise reduction know-how and a set of touch-sensitive music controls buried in the hidden exterior OLED display – though without the RAZR2’s haptic feedback. New menus are there too, with the optional ‘spinner’ view.Long since ditching iTunes support, it now sips tea with Windows Media Player 11 (sorry Mac fans) and its MP3 and WMA files but still supports Apple’s DRM free iTunes Plus files and their AAC format.There’s only 25MB on-board but the MicroSD slot will take cards up to 4GB – good for a thousand tracks. A2DP’s been squeezed in too for Bluetooth cans.Moto’s got it pegged for release before the end of the year along with seven, yes seven, entry level W-series phones lined up for this month and a limited edition RAZR2 plated in 24K gold.
