Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has showed his support for Apple’s iPad, confirming that The Wall Street Journal would be headed to the tablet, as well as six or more other devices by the end of the year.
Speaking about the development of the WSJ for the iPad, Murdoch commented that although his team are being able to work on the device, Apple is keeping it “under padlock and key” and that Apple turns the key every night – taking it off the developers until the morning. Paranoid, much?
Of course most interesting for us is that Murdoch’s support for the iPad could mean British newspapers such as the Sun, News of the World and The Times make their way on to Apple’s device at some point, as well as a specific iPad app for the likes of MySpace – another of Murdoch’s companies.
Time will tell, although hopefully once the WSJ has been worked out for the iPad, the time to develop other newspapers for the device may not take as long.
There was no timescale given for when we’d see WSJ on the iPad, but we’d assume Murdoch would be aiming for as close to the launch of the device as possible.
And what are these half dozen other devices Murdoch mentioned as well? The WSJ is already available to Kindle users in the States – is he talking about e-readers and tablets we don’t know about yet? Oh Rupert, you big tease.
