MWC 2013 – Spotify coming to Ford cars

Music streaming in your motor – and it’s just the first of many apps coming to Ford via AppLink

Ford has announced that it will be bringing Spotify to some of its new cars this year, alongside a selection of other apps.

Ford’s SYNC AppLink service will allow drivers to “install” various apps in their Ford (well, actually on a smartphone which is then connected to the in-car SYNC platform), and the first European model to get the system will be the EcoSport SUV, on sale later this year. Ford says that it will feature in 3.5 million vehicles in Europe by 2015.

AppLink offers voice control, so with the Spotify app (which will be available from March) you’ll be able to bark orders like “shuffle”, “star track” and “repeat” at your dashboard, controlling playback without having to take your hands off the wheel.

Other apps on the way to Europe include Kaliki Audio Newsstand (which provides audio playback of newspaper and magazine articles), Glympse (which allows you to share your location with friends on a dynamic, real-time map) and Aha (another audible service, which delivers 30,000 stations of entertainment and info and will even read you your Twitter and Facebook feeds).
