OnePlus’ new flagship will be “cooler than ever”

OnePlus and Qualcomm are teaming up to make a 2.1 version of the Snapdragon 810 CPU

The OnePlus Two is going to be the company’s 2015 flagship smartphone, and like most range-toppers it’ll need a unique selling point – something that’ll make it stand out from the pack. And now OnePlus has revealed a little about what it has planned to do the job.

It’s going to be putting Qualcomm’s eight-core Snapdragon 810 CPU into its phone – but with a twist. The chip has been altered to run more efficiently alongside OnePlus’ hardware – a more fine-tuned experience. OnePlus has been working alongside Qualcomm to design a ‘2.1 version’, which the company claims will offer both optimal performance and a long battery life. OnePlus’ own OxygenOS has been altered to make sure it works “beautifully with the Snapdragon 810.”

“The Snapdragon 810 v2.1 is just the beginning of something beautiful,” OnePlus told the world.

OnePlus assures us that none of the heating issues that have been encountered with the 810 will happen in its phone. “We have taken all the necessary precautions and beyond to prevent this from occurring in the Two,” OnePlus said. “The Two will be ‘cooler than ever.’” OnePlus has been spreading thermal gel and graphite throughout the Two to help dissipate the heat, so it hasn’t all been down to Qualcomm.

“We’ve created proprietary technology, which handles a variety of tasks for the chipset inside of the Two,” the company explained. “Of the aforementioned eight CPU processors, these vary in size for different tasks in the phone. For example, one or two of the larger processors would be used for graphics-heavy gaming, while in contrast, the small processor would be used for simple text messaging.”

We do wish that OnePlus would just come out and show us its new phone already, but we appreciate the effort it’s put into getting it ready for release. It’s going to be releasing what’s inside the phone bit by bit over the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more info.
