Orange takes on Twitpic and brings MMS updates to Twitter

Orange has joined O2 and Vodafone by offering Twitter SMS from today. But it also looks set to take on the likes of Twitpic and other Twitter picture services by introducing the ability to send a picture message with your tweets.
This will be possible via the company’s new website, called Snapshot, and will make Orange the first UK operator to offer this sort of service.
Users will simply need to send the picture in an MMS message, along with their tweet, to the Twitter shortcode 86444, and followers will be sent a link to view the picture within Snapshot. Very much the same as how Twitpic works.
You will be charged the price of a normal MMS for this, while a regular Twitter SMS is the price of a regular text message.
Of course, to smartphone users with Twitter applications, this new service may seem slightly redundant, but to those without one, or those who don’t have unlimited web usage, this option may be slightly more desirable.
Twitter will be incorporated into Orange’s social media portal, Social Life, which allows users to get access and updates to the likes of Facebook, Bebo and MySpace from one place.
