Philips delivers iPod and Ambilight treats

We’re currently ensconced in Philips’ gadget lair in Lisbon and while we’ve seen some familiar tech such as its upcoming Eco TV and BDP7200 Blu-ray player, some new shiny toys have also caught our eye.

You may be sick of the sight of iPod docks, but Philips two new efforts are at least a bit more original than the average fair.

The DC570 (pictured left) is a towering throne of a dock, and promises some decent bass output from its built-in subwoofer. The DC910 (pictured right), meanwhile, lets you dock your iPod or iPod Touch in either landscape or portrait orientation and, should you also have some memory cards lying around, includes an SD card slot.

Philips has also announced an attractive new 9000 series LCD range to tide us over while we wait for its flagship Aurea range. The cheaper 9600 line will be available in 32in, 37in, 42in and 47in versions, and packs full 1080p resolution, 100Hz refresh rates for sharper moving images and a generous four HDMI ports.

The 9700 range, available in 42in, 47in and 52in flavours, packs all of this plus some ‘Perfect Colours’ processing which apparently boosts its colour reproduction. Both also include some improved Ambilight Spectra tech that creates a colourful halo around the screen.

And just to make sure no-one thinks it’s given up in its fight against the iPod, Philips has also taken the wraps off a new GoGear called the SA52. This packs 4GB of storage and touts some new tech called FullSound which apparently goes some way towards making your compressed MP3s sound, well, a lot less compressed.

A 2.8in QVGA screen, FM radio and video playback also make it, if not an Nano-killer, at least a promising alternative.
