So, it’s official: war is declared. Following on from last week’s showbiz 360 launch, Sony’s taken the wraps off its outrageously powerful PlayStation 3. Going on sale next Spring – the same time as Halo 3 if Bill Gates is to be believed – the PS3 matches and surpasses the Xbox 360 for hardware. The 360-beating bits are that it’ll also play Blu-Ray discs, do hi-def at higher def than the 360 (1080p versus 1080i) and pack much more processing power (two teraflops to the 360’s one).The specs: NVIDIA graphics card 256mb RAM Removable 2.5 hard drive (capacity TBC) 6 x USB 2.0 Memory Stick and SD slots 2 x HDMI outputs 802.11g Wi-Fi Bluetooth for a maximum of 7 controllers Ethernet Backwards compatibility with PSOne and PS2 games Multimedia support: movies, video, photos, internet accessWe’ll have more PS3 info and game details shortly.
