Samsung transparent portrait TV coming to CES 2013 next week?

Samsung looks set to surprise us with a brave view world – by turning a telly on its side

Samsung may be the star of the show at CES 2013 if this image from its blog is anything to go by. As you can see it shows a portrait frame – and with Samsung claiming that “A true innovation of TV design is coming up with a unprecedented new TV shape and timeless design,” it could be turning TV on its head – or on its side, at least.

Samsung could win shock factor points with a portrait-format TV – but it might suffer in the long run when everything is filmed in lovely, wide 16:9. One possibility is a rotating screen that can switch between portrait and landscape formats – letting you switch between TV shows and tablet mirroring easily.

Samsung’s mystery screen could also be transparent, going by the clues in the teaser image – and the fact that it showed off a Smart Window at last year’s CES.

Check back for full details next week when we’ll be bringing you all the innovations of CES as they’re revealed. And in the meantime, check out our 10 things to expect from CES 2013. Here’s hoping Samsung will finally release its Smart Evolution TV upgrades after announcing them last year.
