UK 4G release date could land in mid-2013
UK gadgeteers could be surfing at 4G speeds while they're out and about this time next year, according to Ofcom
The agonising wait for 4G to hit UK shores continues, but at least communications regulator Ofcom has decided to throw us all a bone by announcing that 4G should roll out to Brits in the middle of next year.
The unleashing of 4G onto the mobile surfing fans will follow a massive spectrum sale which will see mobile providers battle it out for the rights to different bands in the 4G spectrum.
The sale should start by the end of this year, with the auction hammer finally smashing down in early 2013, giving providers enough time to shuffle their papers around until the mid-2013 release of the service
Ofcom reckons that 4G will supply 98 per cent of people in villages, towns and cities across the UK (sorry cave dwellers), so here’s to hoping that everything goes smoothly.
