Like most days this week, I found a box from Nokia on my desk this morning. It’s a bit too soon for Nokia Tube prototypes, but tucked up inside were its two new portable e-mailers – the E71 and E66.
While they look very different, it soon became clear why they had chosen to fly to Stuff towers together – they are soul mates in terms of specs. Both have HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, Nokia Maps and a 3.2MP camera.
In the flesh both have a satisfying heft, particularly the Blackberry-bothering E71 (left), which feels pretty bomb-proof and is equipped to survive the most brutal suitcase accident. It comes with a sensible black pouch and Nokia’s slightly cheap-feeling hands-free earphones.
But the E66 (right) is clearly the more fun-loving – its slide action is very smooth and it even comes with a white coat, clearly marking it out as the P Diddy of the smartphone world. We’ll have a hands-on video of both soon.
