Panasonic TH-42PV500 review

Everything’s integrated in this streamlined set: from the single HDMI input to the digital TV tuner. You can even view video footage via the recordable SD card slot

So plasma’s dead, is it? Not on this evidence. Panny persists with plasma for all its larger screens, claiming this ensures both better contrast and more vivid colours. As a result, Panasonic has an impressive plasma pedigree.

This Panasonic has lower resolution than some LCD rivals, but it’s still high-def ready. If specs are everything in your world, that might put you off. But, learned friend, that would be a big mistake.

The fact is, the Panasonic has ace picture quality: pictures appear more real, with greater depth and vitality, while the image is spectacularly sharp and stable, even with very fast motion. There’s virtually no trace of noise or grain. There’s a fantastic level of detail on display and the set handles fast moving action scenes with ease. Try it; you’ll definitely like it.

It even sounds good, and its slim, integral speakers are as stealthy as can be.
