Fully Charged: Gold Moto 360 likely coming, Totem VR headset hits Kickstarter, and Rock Band Network finally ceases submissions

Motorola accidentally teases gold Moto 360

Interested in the Moto 360 smartwatch, but concerned that it might be a bit too understated for your tastes? That’s understandable, but Motorola may have something else besides silver and black versions on the horizon, if a seemingly accidental leak is any indication.

Android Police spotted a promotional image from Motorola that showed a gold version of the device, but when the site contacted PR to inquire about the surprise new option, it was quickly pulled – and the page was reconfigured to look like the golden variation had never been included. Whoops.

Motorola ultimately told the site, “Although we can’t comment on gold specifically, we’re always exploring new materials and we intend to provide Moto 360 in a selection of styles in the future.”

In other words, if gold is your favourite colour and you’ve got a Moto 360 on the brain, hold on to your money for now.

Totem VR headset trying to take on Oculus Rift

Once upon a time, Oculus VR was just a company trying to raise some money on Kickstarter to fuel its virtual reality dreams. Then it was bought by Facebook for US$2 billion (£1.22 billion), and just unveiled its new, amazing-looking prototype headset over the weekend.

Vrvana seems intent on being the next Oculus, launching its own VR headset on Kickstarter last week in search of CAD$350,000 (about £196,000) to bring its vision to life. The company’s Totem headset features both positional tracking and passthrough imagery via its built-in cameras, with a full HD display found inside the headset.

One key difference between the Totem and the Rift is that Vrvana’s device has hardware acceleration included, which is supposed to help reduce lag and allow even lower-powered devices and consoles to get in on the fun. Vrvana is promising first devices in April 2015 for US$450 (£275) via the campaign.

Rock Band Network finally closing submissions

Remember how amazing Rock Band was? While developer Harmonix itself stopped releasing new downloadable content in April 2013 to focus on newer projects, the indie-minded Rock Band Network allowed bands to construct and release their own playable songs for the game and get a cut of the profits.

Unfortunately, Harmonix says the Rock Band Network has been plagued with issues for some time, due to its redirected focus and many of the past developers leaving the studio, and as of last week, it will no longer accept new song submissions. The 2,121 songs already released via RBN will still be available to purchase for the foreseeable future.
