Fully Charged: Resident Evil could hit VR, and Tesla employees allegedly assaulted by journalists

Bite-sized tech news tidbits, ready for the reading

Resident Evil team focussed on VR

It’s been a few years since Resident Evil 6‘s limp, overlong campaign – we’ll have to deal with spinoff fare like Umbrella Corps. for the time being – but the team behind the core series is apparently making virtual reality a big focus for the future.

In an annual report, Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi of its Division 1 team wrote, "We are focussing our energy on challenging the virtual reality (VR) game market." He added that they’re "building a new game development engine able to support VR," and that VR is "the hottest market right now."

Better yet? "An unmatched horror experience making use of the immersive experience only possible with a VR headset" is mentioned as a possible opportunity for the tech. In other words, if you thought Resident Evil was scary before (at least in its horror-centric glory days), just get ready for virtual reality.

Journalists break into Gigafactory?

Journalists break into Gigafactory?

We’re excited to see how Tesla Motors’ Gigafactory in Reno, Nevada will power the next generation of electric vehicles – but according to the company, a couple of journalists got a little too excited about seeing what’s inside the still-under-construction factory.

In a blog post, Tesla says that two journalists from the Reno Gazette Journal allegedly trespassed on the property, and when approached, they entered their Jeep and quickly backed into a Tesla employee who suffered cuts and bruises. And then as they tried to escape, they smashed into an ATV driven by two safety managers, and then accelerated into one of those employees.

The Reno Sheriff’s Department arrested one of the journalists for felony assault with a deadly weapon, and informed both that they’ll be charged with trespassing. We only really have Tesla’s side of the story for now, but in any case, it sounds like a strange, unfortunate situation.

"We appreciate the interest in the Gigafactory, but the repeated acts of trespassing, including by those working for the RGJ, is illegal, dangerous and needs to stop," reads Tesla’s post. "In particular, we will not stand for assaults on our employees and are working with law enforcement to investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice."

Deus Ex gets official upgrade mod

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is one of the most anticipated games of the early year, following the rapturous love of previous entry Human Revolution, but Square Enix has just done something rather unexpected in the lead-up to the new release: given its official blessing to a fan-made mod of the very first game.

The 2000 original is widely beloved, but it’s 15 years old at this point. However, the new Revision mod – available for free via Steam – gives a visual upgrade to the classic, while also tweaking the level design and soundtrack. It’s a fresh way to experience the old favorite, so if you’re counting the days until Mankind Divided drops on PC, you might as well go back to the start.
