These are the games you can play for free on PlayStation Plus in July

Snag Heavy Rain, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and more in July

FREE IN JULY

FREE IN JULY

Each and every month, Sony trots out a new selection of games you can download for free all month and then keep and play forever, so long as you maintain your Plus subscription. You’ll always find at least a couple of PlayStation 4 picks, along with games for PS3 and Vita as well. Looking for a heads-up on which games you can grab right now and soon ahead? We’ve got you covered: these are the UK’s PlayStation Plus freebies for July 2018, which will be available to download starting 3 July. And if you didn’t grab June’s free downloads yet, then scroll further down for a quick look at those titles.

ABSOLVER (PS4)

ABSOLVER (PS4)

Absolver is a melee fighting game like no other, offering ample customisation and control as you build out your fighter and enter online duels. It’s tough, but can be plenty satisfying if you put the time into understanding its mechanical nuances.

HEAVY RAIN (PS4)

HEAVY RAIN (PS4)

Beyond: Two Souls was free in May, and now Quantic Dream’s other PS3 game, Heavy Rain – the much better one – is free in July. This remastered edition preserves the narrative adventure’s unique quirks and emotional resonance, even if the game feels a bit dated now.

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS III (PS4)

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS III (PS4)

Made available as a bonus freebie during E3, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is still up for grabs until 11 July. Treyarch’s previous entry remains a fan-favourite from recent years, serving up tense futuristic multiplayer shootouts and another trademark cinematic campaign experience.

SPACE OVERLORDS (PS4/VITA)

SPACE OVERLORDS (PS4/VITA)

You might not want to bother clearing storage space for this one: Space Overlords looks like a dead-simple game about smashing buildings and planetary defenses, and it’s been savaged in reviews by critics and users alike.

RAYMAN 3 HD (PS3)

RAYMAN 3 HD (PS3)

Got an itch for an old-school 3D platformer? Rayman 3 HD updates the PlayStation 2 original with slightly crisper graphics, but really it’s just a solid early-2000s hop-and-bop quest that might be worth revisiting if you still use your PS3.

EXTREME EXORCISM (PS3)

EXTREME EXORCISM (PS3)

Who you gonna call? An extreme exorcist, apparently, as Extreme Exorcism puts you in the boots of a powerful ghost-buster of sorts. It looks and plays like an old-school arcade game, and actually sounds pretty fun.

ZERO ESCAPE: ZERO TIME DILEMMA (VITA)

ZERO ESCAPE: ZERO TIME DILEMMA (VITA)

Many of the free Vita games on PlayStation Plus aren’t worth your time, but Zero Escape is easily one of the best picks to date. This acclaimed, anime-stylized narrative adventure won’t be for everyone – but if you like Japanese psychological horror, it’s considered a real gem.
