These are the games you can play for free on Xbox Live Gold in July

Got yourself an Xbox Live Gold membership? Of course you have. But did you know it gets you loads of free games every month? Here’s what’s on offer in July.

Xbox Live Gold - July: Assault Android Cactus

1. Assault Android Cactus (Xbox One)

The name is silly, but Assault Android Cactus is one seriously fun arcade-style shooter. This twin-stick blaster finds you cutting down waves of robotic attackers, and it’s even crazier in multiplayer than solo play. It’s free throughout July.

Xbox Live Gold - July: Smite

2. Smite: Gold Bundle (Xbox One)

Smite is actually a free-to-play game – it’s like a more action-centric take on League of Legends – but this Gold Bundle gives you US$100+ worth of in-game purchases, including playable gods, skins, and other bits and pieces. Snag this one from now until 15 July.

Xbox Live Gold - July: Death Squared

3. Death Squared (Xbox One)

Here’s another indie game that’s seen some strong reviews: Death Squared is a cooperative puzzle experience that requires teamwork to guide multiple robots to colour-coded goals. Obviously, it’s never that straightforward. Grab it between 16 July and 15 August.

Xbox Live Gold - July: Virtua Fighter 5

4. Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (Xbox 360/Xbox One)

Sega’s iconic fighting franchise has been on the shelf for some time now, but you can loop back on the latest and greatest entry with Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown this month. It’s the complete package, playable on both Xbox One and Xbox 360, and free from 1-15 July.

Xbox Live Gold - July: Splinter Cell Conviction

5. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction (Xbox 360/Xbox One)

Sam Fisher fans are still waiting on Ubisoft to revive the stealth-action series, but in the meantime, you can revisit this well-reviewed 2010 entry, which sees the skilled secret agent on the run from the U.S. government. This one’s free later in the month, from 16-31 July.
