Fully Charged: Moto 360 gets Android 5.1.1 boost, and vote on Xbox 360 games for XB1

Here's all of the quick-hit tech news you need to get Friday started

Moto 360 gets Android 5.1.1

About a month ago, Android Wear 5.1.1 started rolling out to certain smartwatches – but not the Moto 360. Reportedly, performance issues kept the update at bay, but now Motorola has given the update the go ahead to start hitting the circular smartwatch in the next couple days.

Android Wear 5.1.1 brings big enhancements to the devices, including the ability to run over Wi-Fi when your paired phone isn’t near, as well as new gesture controls and the option to generate emojis simply by drawing them on the screen. If you’re eager to give your Moto 360 a nice little shot in the arm, keep an eye out for the update hitting right about now.

Vote on Xbox 360 games for XB1

If this week’s announcement of backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games on Xbox One sounds appealing – as it did to the roaring attendees of Microsoft’s E3 media briefing – then you might want to jump on the company’s new survey for top titles to prioritize.

Microsoft says it will expand the roster monthly, but that they "can’t promise every title will be available" – however, if you want to voice your opinion, you can do so here. Red Dead Redemption currently leads the pack with about 35,000 votes, with Call of Duty: Black Ops II, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and Halo: Reach following not far behind.

Fitbit’s public offering soars

Design and build quality

Wearable tech is growing exponentially, and Fitbit is one of the market leaders on the fitness end of things – which led to yesterday’s initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange. And investors responded with huge interest, as shares originally priced at US$20 (just under £13) apiece rose above US$30 (about £19) immediately. It closed just under that mark, retaining the majority of the spike.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Fitbit raised some US$732 million (about £461 million) in the process, and the offering gives the company a valuation of US$4.1 billion (£2.58 billion). In other words, Fitbit just had one hell of a day, and it’s probably sticking around for a while. And we’re good with that: we’ve quite liked their offerings.
