Disney Infinity 2.0 introduces Marvel Super Heroes to toy-based game

The Avengers characters lead charge onto new platforms

Delivering on recent hints, Disney today announced a new Infinity game featuring characters from the Marvel Comics universe.

Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes will be a new standalone game featuring iconic heroes and villains from the comic behemoth, with characters from The Avengers—Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, The Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye—announced as part of the 20+ planned figurines.

Nick Fury, Loki, and MODOK were also shown in the first trailer, along with familiar faces from Guardians of the Galaxy, which hits cinemas this summer.

Like the original Infinity release, Marvel Super Heroes will utilize plastic toys that sit on a base connected to your game console or PC, which then imports those characters into the game.

Infinity 2.0 (as it’s being referred to) features a storyline by celebrated Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Bendis, along with much larger worlds to explore (and fly in) plus an overhauled Toy Box mode for creating your own levels.

All previous characters and power discs will still work in Infinity 2.0, which paves the way for some wild mash-ups between Disney and Marvel properties. The new starter pack will include a copy of the game along with The Avengers playset, as well as Black Widow, Iron Man, and Thor figurines and two power discs.

Unlike the original game, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes will make its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, alongside Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and iOS. It’s due out this fall, with additional info promised at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June.
