Gears of War Ultimate edition roadie runs towards a PC release
Windows 10 Store listing reveals all, but it's not official yet
Chainsaw guns at the ready, soldier – Gears of War Ultimate edition is on the way to PCs.
The Xbox One exclusive was always due to arrive on PC eventually, but Microsoft has so far kept quiet on when that might be. Now, a leak from Microsoft itself has given a new hint that it could be launching sooner than later.
A listing appeared on the Windows 10 Store earlier this week, confirming the recommended system specs – as well as what you’ll need to run everything in 4K.
There was no mention of a price, or a release date, and the listing has now been taken down, but it’s listings usually mean there’s not too long to wait before a launch.
System specs don’t look too bad if you’re happy to run at low-medium settings, but you’ll need a beefy rig if you want to turn on all the graphical bells and whistles.
That means 16GB of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980ti/ Radeon R9 390x, plus an SSD with a whopping 60GB of space if you want to run it in 4k. It looks like Windows 10 will be a must, and DirectX 12 is on the cards too.
The original Gears was one of the first Xbox 360 games to truly take off online through Xbox Live, with thousands of players logging in daily to pop heads with the Longshot, pull off crazy tags with the torque bow and generally blow each other up with the Boomshot.
The sequels added to the formula with new modes, weapons and mechanics, but we’ll always have a soft spot for all those rounds of execution we played on maps like Mausoleum, Escalation and Gridlock.
Hopefully this leak means we won’t have long to wait until the PC release arrives.
