Remote Play is among the PlayStation 4’s most innovative features, but there’s a very good chance that you can’t even use it – simply because it’s limited to the PS Vita, PS TV and Sony’s recent range of Xperia Android devices. But possibly not for long.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida, president of the company’s gaming wing’s Worldwide Studios, confirmed via Twitter that the company is currently working on an official application to allow Remote Play on PCs and Macs. Remote Play allows you to play games on your PS4 from another device, using your home Wi-Fi network or even the internet. It’s handy if you don’t want to stop playing Destiny just because you have to go to the toilet, or if your flatmates want to watch “the big telly” and you’re right in the middle of a particularly enthralling sex scene in The Witcher 3.

While Sony has yet to reveal details of precisely how the computer apps will work or when we can expect them to arrive, we hope to hear more about it at PlayStation Experience 2015, which takes place on 5 and 6 December in San Francisco. One thing seems sure – with even more ways to play your PS4 games without actually being in front of said console, it’s going to be even harder to get anything actually productive done – unless you consider blasting in goals in Rocket League productive, of course (we do).

Owners of the Xbox One can already stream games to another Windows computer in their home, but PS4’s computer-based Remote Play may have a little more going for it thanks to its Mac support. Time will tell.
