Experience the Death Star and Bespin in Star Wars Battlefront this year
A bit more free content before the big, paid packs arrive
Are you still knee-deep in Star Wars Battlefront? If so, good: your dedication will soon be rewarded with a treasure trove of new content for the multiplayer shooter. And if not, perhaps all that extra stuff will pull you back in.
Electronic Arts and DICE just outlined their battle plan for Battlefront‘s next year, which includes a wave of free additions before the season pass lineup begins delivering loads of bigger, paid content (as promised). Tomorrow, players will see new modes added to the Tatooine Survival map, along with Hoth outfits (seen above) for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.
They’re also adding Private Matches for skirmishes with friends, as well as Daily Challenges and Community Events to try and keep players more engaged over time. A new Hoth multiplayer map is coming free in February, meanwhile, along with a Hoth Survival mission. And in March, they’ll offer up a free Endor multiplayer map, as well as a Survival map for Tatooine.
And then the really good stuff arrives – for money, of course. The Outer Rim pack releases in March and brings content based on Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine, as well as the factories of Sullust (from The Clone Wars). Lando fans, meanwhile, will be thrilled to see the Bespin pack arrive this summer, which will deliver locales set in the Cloud City.
When autumn rolls around, get ready to storm the Death Star with an expansion based around the iconic locale. And finally, a fourth pack will arrive in early 2017, but no details are available just yet. Maybe something tied into this December’s Star Wars: Rogue One movie? Or perhaps even a prologue of sorts for next year’s (recently delayed) Star Wars: Episode VIII? We can dream.
The season pass sells for £40 (or US$50) on all three platforms – PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC – and gets you all of the expansions as they release, otherwise EA is sure to offer them individually as well. While some players were underwhelmed with Battlefront‘s content offering, surely the game will seem much fuller in a year’s time… with extra expense, of course.
