Fully Charged: PS4 getting PS1 and PS2 games, the biggest space battle in history and genuine Jurassic Park raptor cage for sale

The morning’s biggest tech stories packed onto a single page

PS1 and PS2 games “coming to PS4”

We already know that PS3 games will be playable on the PlayStation 4 via Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Now streaming tech – but it seems the company isn’t stopping there. According to Eurogamer, Sony is reaching back further into its past to bring PS1 and PS2 games to its new console – and it won’t be using PS Now to do it.

The games will instead run locally under emulation – and may even have new native HD graphics rather than the rather disappointing blurry upscaled HD used by the PS3 when running older games. If it turns out to be true, we can’t wait to see how good the likes of Metal Gear Solid 3 turn out.

Jurassic Park’s raptor cage is for sale on eBay

Want to buy a piece of movie history? Or maybe just need something in which to keep your pet dinosaur? Then it’s your lucky day, because the original velociraptor cage from the opening scene of Jurassic Park is currently being auctioned off on eBay.

At the time of writing the current high bid is a shade under US$100,000 (£60,350), but you have until 4th February to put in your own. Oh, and you’ll also need to arrange for the thing to be shipped from Los Angeles – the seller has specified that the auction winner needs to pick it up themselves…

Rap Genius app explains songs as your iPhone plays them

Rap Genius app explains songs as your iPhone plays them

Rap Genius, the website which gives detailed, and often hilarious, explanations of hip hop lyrics, has launched its own iOS app – and a very clever one it is too.

Genius features the same content as the site (and we should point out that Rap Genius no longer limits itself to hip hop – it also offers breakdowns of poems, historical documents, news and other genres of music), but in a smart twist it’s also able to instantly bring up the explanation of whatever song you’re currently listening to in your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad’s native music player, or use the device’s microphone to listen to and recognise a song playing (much like Shazam), then give you the lowdown on it.

The app is free, and you can download it here.

MMO Eve Online’s biggest ever battle happened yesterday – and it caused over £120,000 of damage

MMO Eve Online’s biggest ever battle happened yesterday – and it caused over £12

Long-running space opera MMO Eve Online saw its biggest ever battle this week, with over 2,200 players participating. By the time the laser beams had stopped flying, something in the region of US$200,000 (£120,000) worth of virtual spaceships had been destroyed. Over 75 “titan” capital ships were lost, with the largest being worth $5,500 (£3,300) in real money. Titans take weeks to build in the game.

The battle (an awesome hi-res screenshot of which you can view here) was sparked when one player couldn’t pay the in-game rent on an important solar system, meaning the area went up for grabs. Two large rival factions decided they would take control of it, and the result was hours of carnage – and quite possibly the largest battle in MMO history.
