Here’s why action fans need to play Ghost Recon: Wildlands
All-new E3 gameplay has definitely satisfied our shooter itch
Ghost Recon:Wildlands was expected to make a big impact here at E3, and it hasn’t disappointed.
Ubisoft has revealed a new cinematic trailer and gameplay footage from the upcoming third-person shooter, which is slated to hit shelves on 7 March next year.
The trailer itself reveals more of the story behind the title, focusing on a menacing drug lord who has somehow managed to turn the entire country of Bolivia into his own personal cocaine factory.
It’s up to you and your friends to save the day, forming a small, elite squad of soldiers to slip in deep behind enemy lines and take down the monster from the inside out.
Trigger happy
Basing our opinions on the new gameplay trailer alone, Wildlands looks like it will break the traditional vanilla run-and-gun gameplay of most other shooters in spectacular fashion (while looking absolutely gorgeous in the process).
Instead of running in a group, taking enemies out and advancing, it looks like players will all have individual roles, making missions more immersive, and more exciting.
In the demo, one player infiltrates a camp while his teammates cover his route with sniper fire, calling out enemies to make sure there are no nasty surprises.
This is a great way to keep missions feeling fresh, as you’ll be able to mix up your role in each mission. Alternatively, if you play with a group of regular friends, everyone can find their own niche, gelling together and perfecting their roles, until you’re all one deadly, efficient killing machine.
It’s not all about gunplay though. The open world nature of Wildlands is shown off in the demo when the target takes off in a car, resulting in a thrilling chase through wild scrubland and roads on pursuing bikes and even a helicopter, piloted by a teammate.
Dodgy dialogue aside (could they seriously not have made the demo chat a little more realistic?), we can see ourselves preferring this chaotic open world freedom to more linear shooters like The Division.
The only bad thing we’ve seen about Wildlands so far, is its release date, which is agonisingly far away – we’re going to have to wait till next year to load up and get in on the action.
If what we’ve seen so far is anything to go by though, it’ll be worth the wait.
