Sign up for the Mirror’s Edge Catalyst beta – and watch the story trailer too
EA's open-world reimagining makes a big splash before its May debut
Had things worked out a little differently, we’d be playing Mirror’s Edge Catalyst – EA and DICE’s reboot of the stunning first-person runner – right about now. But it was delayed late last year, and now we’re waiting until May rolls around.
Depending on how you look at things, they just made the wait a little more tolerable or completely unbearable with today’s announcements. First off, you can sign up for the closed Catalyst beta test on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC right now. Just click this link and be sure to login with your Origin or EA account.
When will the beta take place? What content will it have? These are questions we still don’t have answers to, but you’d better sign up if you want a shot at guiding Faith through some gorgeously minimal environments before late May rolls around. Signing up doesn’t guarantee you a spot in the beta test, but you might as well give it a chance.
The other part of today’s big announcement was the release of the story trailer above, which finally gives us a taste of what to expect from the campaign. Catalyst serves as a fresh origin story for the series, effectively replacing the 2008 game as the starting point, and spotlights Faith’s rise from a reckless runner into a proper heroine. And the trailer shows that there’s quite a bit of narrative and dialogue planned for this entry.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is due out in Europe on 26 May, although it’ll hit North America a couple days early on 24 May, and it puts an open-world spin on the old favourite while adding a multiplayer component. Based on what we played at E3 last year, we have some faith (pun intended, obviously) that EA is going to pull this one off in fine fashion.
