Yarny will thread another story as Unravel sequel confirmed
EA signs Coldwood for another heartwarming adventure
EA’s Unravel might be one of the most memorable games we’ve played all year, not only for its adorable thread-based lead character and stunning graphics but also its incredible peaks of frustration.
True, Coldwood Interactive’s side-scrolling action didn’t quite live up to the game’s heart and warmth, nor did the narrative match the expressive, wondrous hero that is Yarny. But we still felt something for the game, which is why we’re pleased to hear that the studio will have another shot to nail its vision with a sequel.
Electronic Arts and Coldwood announced today that they will continue their partnership with another title, and when pressed on what it might be, an EA rep confirmed to Polygon that the deal “will be for the next Unravel.”
"We don’t have any details to share right now, but we look forward to sharing more when the time is right," wrote Patrick Söderlund, executive vice president of EA Studios, in a blog post before the sequel was confirmed. "We could not be more excited to continue working with Martin Sahlin and the great team at Coldwood, and to see the next adventure they bring to life."
Unravel just released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in February, so the chances of a sequel coming out soon – let alone being revealed at E3 next month – seem slim. But a lot of goodwill was seemingly built up by the first game to warrant this quick announcement, and hopefully it won’t be too long before Yarny swings again.
