Pioneer’s blow the budget Kuros are legend among plasmas and the 2008 line-up looks to be no exception.

Ditching the ‘puny’ 42in size, they now come in 50in and 60in guises only, all to ensure maximum bragging rights.

The big news this year is that Pioneer, in its never ending quest for ‘absolute black’, is boasting black levels five times deeper than 2007’s screens, for even better contrast and colour depth. All this and they’re still 20% thinner than their predecessors, at a slim-Jim 93mm thick.

If that’s too lardy then Sir could also consider the Elite line up of Kuros due later in the year. They’ll also come in 50in and 60in (pictured) sizes but carry two-year warranties and shun built-in speakers and tuners, letting them slim-down to a mere 64mm thick.

Prices for the Elite will start at $5,500 in the US but, like they say, you’re worth it. Right?
