Epson Moverio Smart Glasses transform the entire world as you see it
Epson’s new smart specs are Google Glass on steroids
Epson has revealed a pair of smart glasses that pack a mightier wallop than Google Glass in the specs department.
The unassumingly named Moverio BT-200 smart glasses have a built-in camera, gyroscope, GPS and an array of other sensors, all of which are powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB or RAM, 8GB of (microSD-expandable) storage, a six-hour battery life and Dolby Digital Plus sound. Phew.
Unlike Google Glass which uses one small screen in the periphery of your right eye, the Moverio uses two 0.42in LCD panels to deliver the equivalent of a 320in qHD screen across your entire field of vision along with the ability to see side-by-side 3D content.
AR you ready?
Because the display itself is transparent, the Moverio glasses also let you layer virtual images over the real-world, allowing them to double up as AR glasses.
Wi-Fi-, Bluetooth 3.0 and Miracast support allow users to web brose and stream videos too, but there is a downside – these bells and whistles rely on a small trackpad controller which houses some of the Moverio’s smart innards, and it relies on a cable connection.
Still, at least you’ll be able to navigate it with ease, and thanks to a developer site due to go live in May, we’ll hopefully see a host of custom apps to take advantage of all that tantalising hardware.
Our eyes can’t wait.
