Rumour: specs for next two Nintendo consoles leaked

The Wii U has proved a flop with consumers, but Nintendo isn’t in dire straits financially. The company has billions of pounds in the bank, and if rumours are to be believed it’s using some of those to develop not one but two new consoles – one handheld and one for the home.

The “Fusion DS” will be another dual-screen handheld, says the rumour. It’ll have two 5.1in 960 x 640 touchscreens, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, two haptic-equipped circular control pads and 16GB of internal storage.

Then there’s the “Fusion Terminal”, powered by an 8-core custom IBM processor and supporting 1080p and 4K video output. It’ll be able to charge up to four Fusion DS units or motion controllers wirelessly. There’ll be 60GB and 300GB versions, and support for Wii U discs, 3DS cards and new Nintendo optical disc format called HVD.

Even Gaminrealm, the site that reported this rumour, urges its readers to take the story with “a grain of salt” and we would suggest you do the same. After all, the Wii U has only been on sale for just over a year. Still, interesting stuff.

Xbox One gets price cut

Xbox One gets price cut

Online retailers Zavvi and The Hut have cut the price of the Xbox One console by £20, offering the “basic” (i.e. game-less) package for £410. We’d expect other retailers to follow.

The Xbox One’s £430 guide price is substantially higher than the Sony PlayStation 4‘s (£350), and this is undoubtedly one of the factors in the retailers’ decision. Reports claim the PS4 may be outselling Microsoft’s console by a ratio of as much as three to one.

The most downloaded torrent of 2013? It’ll surprise you

BitTorrent logo

If you were asked what the most downloaded torrent file of last year was, you’d probably go for an obvious answer: the “Red Wedding” episode of Game of Thrones perhaps, or a movie like The Hobbit: There and Back Again. But it isn’t either of those – in fact, it’s not even an illegal file, despite torrenting’s reputation for encouraging copyright theft.

It transpires that it’s a collection of free and legal collection of tracks by electronic music veteran Moby. Launched through BitTorrent Bundle, the client’s musical storefront, the bundle was downloaded 8.9 million times.

Samsung Galaxy S5 to launch on 23rd February?

If you missed it yesterday, here’s a calendar date to circle if you happen to be a fan of Samsung’s Galaxy phones: 23rd February. Mobile Review’s Eldar Murtazin often hits home runs when it comes to rumours, and he tweeted that Samsung will officially reveal the phone on that date, during Mobile World Congress. He says the S5 will go on sale at the end of April and that it’ll have a new version of the TouchWiz interface.

Nothing earth-shatteringly unbelievable there, so we reckon it could be on the money. Stuff will be in attendance on that date, and as always we’ll bring you all the news concerning Samsung’s new flagship phone.

You can read up on all the latest rumours about the Galaxy S5 over at our preview page.
