Sony: everything the Wii U can do, the PS3 and Vita do already

Why buy a new console when existing hardware does the job “quite easily”, says Sony exec

The Wii U isn’t even out yet, and already Sony is trying to spoil Nintendo’s party. Sony executive John Koller told Engadget that, “what the Wii U is offering is something that Vita and PS3 can do quite easily.”

Koller said that “almost all” Vita owners also own a PS3, meaning that there’s already a legion of setups out there able to replicate the Wii U’s “big screen and second handheld touchscreen” arrangement. But he cautioned that it wasn’t all about the tech, and that Sony needs, “to make sure the content isn’t force fed. And, to us, making sure that the gamer receives the right type of experience is what’s most important.”

The Wii U will be on sale in time for Christmas, and Sony could see this as the ideal opportunity to bundle together a PS3/Vita package. We’ll keep you posted on that.
