Pimp your multiroom with these excellent add-ons
6 of the best Sonos accessories
Whether you’ve just bought your first Sonos speaker or are something of a multiroom veteran, you’ll already know why it’s one of our favourite ways to listen to music. Simply put, Sonos gives you effortlessly easy access to your tunes wherever you are in your house, with barely a wire in sight. But what if you could make it even better? We’ve pulled together a stellar range of accessories and add-ons that will make the perfect +1s to your Sonos party.
Sonos Boost
If your home network is flaky, your Sonos experience will be too. To put a stop to stutters, invest in a Sonos Boost (£85/$99) – a Wi-Fi extender that’ll spread your Sonos sound to areas of your home your router can’t reach. It works by creating an exclusive wireless network just for your Sonos kit, meaning its performance won’t be hampered by other Wi-Fi traffic around the house.
Flexson Illuminated Charging Stand
The Play:1 and Alexa-powered One are Sonos’ teensiest speakers, making them the perfect bedroom companion. And they’ll be even better suited to bedside duties if you team one with a Flexson Illuminated Charging Stand (£45/$45). Not only does this neat stand give the speaker somewhere to sit, it also has a touch-sensitive dimmable light and dual USB power outputs for charging your stuff. It looks pretty smart too, and comes in black or white to match your Sonos colour of choice.
Audio Technica AT-LP5
Sonos may appear to be about as far from the analogue age as it’s possible to get but you can integrate vinyl into your setup with a little help from Audio Technica. The AT-LP5 (£330/$450) has a built-in phono stage, so simply hook it up to a Sonos player with an aux input and your vinyl will play through your Sonos speaker. Even better, you can then throw that sound to any other Sonos components in your house.
Sanus WSTV1 Swivelling TV Base
Not happy with how your TV looks plonked on top of your PlayBase? To take neatness to new levels, this mount from Sanus (£132/$150) is designed to integrate with the PlayBase to such an extent that it looks as though the Sonos speaker is the pedestal. There’s built-in cable management too, and the TV portion swivels so you can get the perfect view wherever you are in the room.
Portta 4×1 HDMI Switcher with Audio
Want surround sound in your living room? If you’ve got a Playbar or Playbase you can add a Sub plus four Sonos speakers for the full Dolby Digital 5.1 shebang. If your TV only outputs sound via HDMI, using a switch such as this one (£27.77/$32) will allow you to plug all your kit in, and then send the audio to your PlayBar or Base using the built-in optical output.
Flexson floor stands
Give your speakers a proper hi-fi vibe with these Flexson floor stands (from £60/$60). As well as making something of a design statement, they’re also the ideal way to turn your smaller Sonos speakers into convincing rear channels for your home cinema setup, getting them at just the right height to deliver that surround-sound magic dust. They’re available for the One, Play:1, Play:3 and Play:5, plus there are also wall mounts if you’re feeling really ambitious.
