5 of the best motorbikes

With the Manx GP this weekend we’ve compiled the best motorcycles from racer to electric street bike

Classified Moto KT-600

US$16,000 (£10,000), classifiedmoto.com

This custom build was made for Battlestar Gallactica’s Starbuck herself, Katee Sackoff. And since she’s the best intergalactic pilot we know, we’re sure this bike packs a punch. It’s based on a 1987 Honda XL600R dual sport frame but crams in a 2006 Triumph Sprint 1050 ST single-sided swing arm and some 2005 Kawasaki ZX6-R for good measure. Plus they’ll even build it for you if you’re not a star pilot.

MV Augusta F4 RR

£18,000, mvagusta.co.uk

MV Augusta claims this F4 RR 998cc superbike is the most powerful bike in the world, putting a blistering 198bhp between your legs. You may recognise it from Batman Begins or I, Robot – that’s because it’s also drop-dead gorgeous and pricey so Hollywood loves it. If you want a more affordable option there’s the equally gorgeous F4 for £15,000 – pocket change for those looks.

Brammo Empulse

US$17,000 (£10,500), brammo.com

Bet you didn’t think an electric streetbike like the Brammo Empulse could look so good right? But it’s got more in its loins than aggressive looks, there’s a 100-mile range and charge time of just 3.5 hours. What’s the downside you ask? It’s not yet out in the UK. But fret not, 2013 should bring the electric whiz of this brute over to European shores, if all goes to plan.

Harley Davidson V-Rod Muscle

£14,000, harley-davidson.com

Even the name of this beast screams Harley with Muscle in the title. And it’s packing plenty with 122bhp chugging out of that underscore of an exhaust. Futuristic lighting, like that slice over the rear wheel, makes this a Harley for the modern biker with £14,000 to spare.

Triumph Daytona 675

£8500, triumphmotorcycles.co.uk

Triumph, the British bike manufacturer famed for being Steve McQueen’s ride in The Great Escape, still make some of the best bikes in the world. The Daytona 675 is at the top of the pile for sheer power, looks and handling. At just 163kg in weight and packing 124bhp, if Macqueen were on this bike the Nazis wouldn’t have had a chance.
