They must be working overtime in BenQ Siemens’ music mobile department – not content with seeing Virgin bring its shaver-style E61 to the UK, the new mobile giant has introduced this singing waif phone.
The EF71 is a genetically modified version of our current number one mobile, the EF81, with two key differences: it’s fatter (18.5mm thick compared to 15.9mm) and has an array of musical talents.
Chief among these is the system called ‘Q-fi’, which comprises a ten-band graphic equaliser for tweaking your music, and 3D surround sound from the phone’s two speakers.
We’ll need to have a listen before passing judgement on its potential as a mini boombox, but the EF71 sounds promising for personal listening too, with support for MP3, AAC and WMA, and dedicated playback controls.
It sadly lacks the EF81’s 3G connectivity and provides a slightly lower talk time of 3 hours, but does sport the same 2.2in, 262,144 colour display and 2MP camera. The phone will also come bundled with a 256MB MicroSD card.
The EF71 is scheduled to come to the UK in September for an as yet unknown price. Keep an eye on BenQ Siemens’ site for more details.
